Want to know God? Let's take a road trip!
As with any successful road trip, there are three things that are crucial.
1. Know where you want to go.
2. Know where your are
3. Know the way to get there.
1. Know where you want to go -- You want to know God.
If you want to Know God, you have chosen a great destination. Before we can get there, let's first establish where you are. After that, we can show you how to get where you want to go. Let' get started.
2. Know where you are -- You are a sinner.
Recognize that in your present state, you are a sinner. We try to be good, we try to do the right things in life but despite our best efforts, we fall miserably short of being a good person. In order to become that good person we want to be, that good person that God desires, we need Jesus Christ.
3. Know the way to get there-- Jesus died on the cross for you.
The Good News that you need to know is that God loves you so much that He sent His only Son to this world to die for us while we were still sinners and did not deserve it. The Bible shows us this in Romans 5:8, "...but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.."
4. Know to leave where you are-- Repent from your sins
The meaning of the word repent is turning away or changing direction. We must run toward God instead of running away from Him. In Act 3:19, the Bible shows us that, "Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away."
5. Know that Jesus is the way-- Receive Jesus into your heart.
Becoming a Christian in not just about belonging to a church or believing a certain doctine, it is most importantly about having a personal relationship with Jesus Chrits. You invite Jesus to be at home in your heart and in your life. The Bible show us that in the book of Revelation 3:20; "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."
If you desire a personal relationship with Christ, just pray this simple prayer and mean it in your heart.
Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner. I am sorry for the things that I have done that are not pleasing to you, I repent and ask you to forgive me. I believe that you died for my sins. You did what I could not do for myself. I invite you into my heart and life to take control. I confess you as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving me. Amen.
