"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor?I believe that we as Christians sometimes want to draw away and isolate ourselves. We want to get into our own subculture and not get involved in the world.— Matthew 5:13
In this scripture, Jesus is telling His disciples that “You are the salt of the earth.” Now in those days, salt was very valuable.
It was used sometimes to pay wages of Roman Soldiers. The phrase, “worth their salt” was used to refer to soldiers who did their jobs well. Jesus was telling His disciples that they were very valuable and important.
Salt can make a big difference in a bland food dish. By itself, salt does not taste good, but if you put salt in some food, it enhances the flavor. Just as salt can make a difference, so can we, as Christians, make a difference in the world if we get in the mix.
Not only does salt enhance taste, it has a preservative quality for food. The process of salting meat allows it to last longer. We as Christians can have a preserving quality by standing up for what is righteous and opposing moral decline going on today.
Be encouraged as a Christian to add some flavor to the world around you.
